With nearly 30 years of experience in the auction industry, Sebastian has held senior positions at leading auction houses, including serving as Senior Vice President at Doyle Auctioneers & Appraisers, Director of the English and Continental Furniture and Decorative Arts department, and Specialist in European Furniture at Sotheby’s. He also served as Director of the English and Continental Furniture department at Freeman’s, and as Head of Trusts and Estates at Rago Auctions. Sebastian is Director of Business Development for Heritage Auctions’ Palm Beach office.

Sebastian is widely recognized for his expertise and has been a featured appraiser on the acclaimed PBS series Antiques Roadshow for nearly 20 years. His areas of specialization include furniture, decorative arts, sculpture, metalwork, and silver.

He is a certified member of the Appraisers Association of America and fully compliant with USPAP standards. Sebastian also previously served on the Association’s Board of Directors.

In addition to his appraisal and advisory work, Sebastian has been a prominent auctioneer for more than two decades, conducting auctions for major auction houses as well as nonprofit organizations, schools, charities, and other 501(c)(3) institutions across the United States.

He resides in West Palm Beach, Florida, with his wife, Katherine van Dell, a jewelry expert and historian.
